STATE AND COUNTY TO CONDUCT COMMUNICATION EXERCISE
IN NOUNOU FOREST RESERVE ON KAUAI, SEPT. 10
Nounou mountain trail shelter will be closed to public
LIHUE – State and County officials will conduct a communications exercise on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Nounou Forest Reserve, near Kapaa. The exercise involves the Kauai Police and Fire Departments, Kauai County Civil Defense and the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement. They will be testing a portable radio repeater to determine how large of a coverage area they can get from the specific location. The day exercise will lead to the closure of the Nounou mountain trail shelter in the Nounou Forest Reserve.
The Nounou-East, Nounou-West, and Kuamoo-Nounou trails will remain open to public access and will not be affected by the closure of the shelter.
DLNR appreciates the public’s cooperation. For more information about the area closure, contact the Kauai District Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) office at (808) 274-3433.
