The Forestry & Wildlife website is one of the primary tools we use to connect people with information about their public resources that are in our care. We strive to ensure that our website is usable, well-designed, and has the content that Hawaiʻi residents and visitors are looking for. Our website underwent a thorough redesign in 2021, with three goals:

  1. Prepare users to engage with the resources we manage, addressed in the 2021 redesign by highlighting hunting, hiking, camping, and riding information, and making our permit guidelines easier to navigate and use.
  2. Provide information to users in a way that relates to them, addressed in the 2021 redesign by creating island hubs that make it easier to information pertaining to a specific island, and by utilizing interactive web maps that provide place-based links to more information on our website.
  3. Inspire people to engage, learn more, and value resources, addressed in the 2021 redesign through better use of photos, visual buttons rather than text links, and expanded educational information including species profile pages, place pages, videos, and virtual tours.

While much has changed, our website is always a work in progress based on user needs. Help us improve our website by sharing your thoughts on usability, design, content, or any other thoughts you’d like to share. Your submission is anonymous and is sent to the Information & Education Coordinator at the DLNR Division of Forestry & Wildlife.
