Species Information

Lysimachia iniki are shrubs with pendulous branches. Flowers are solitary in leaf axils. Petalsʻ distal portion is white and the proximal portion dark red, oblanceolate. This species is fairly new to science, described in 1997. Most of these plants are not accessible, even on rope.  

Distribution

Recorded from only a single location on Kaua‘i.

Habitat

Steep cliffs with wet vegetation consisting of native shrubs, sedges, grasses, and ferns.

Threats

  • Habitat degradation by feral pigs
  • Fruit predation by rats
  • Competition from alien plant species
  • Stochastic extinction
  • Reduced reproductive vigor due to the small number of remaining individuals.
