Hawai‘i Wood Utilization Team secures 2018 Federal Wood Innovation Grant!

Posted on Jul 5, 2018

For the first time, Hawai‘i has won the 2018 Federal Wood Innovation Grant. Out of 119 proposals, the Hawai‘i Wood Utilization Team is one of 34 selected for the US Forest Service Grant.

The Hawai‘i Wood Utilization Team is a cross-sectoral collaboration of state agencies, university, public and private industry experts who lead a statewide program to expand innovative and traditional wood products markets. With the help of this grant, the team will be working on three projects to promote the use of hazardous fuel forest resources: a Hawaii Forest Products Directory, the design/building of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) prototype, and the design/planning of an Education Center. Each project will be a vehicle for increasing the visibility of and confidence in wood products and local manufacturing for commercial building markets.

For more information on this grant, see the DLNR News Release and the Forest Service’s National News Release, and for more information on our team’s goals, see the Hawai‘i Wood Utilization Team page.
