PLANTED IN 2016
Volunteers are an integral part of restoring the high-elevation dry forest of Mauna Kea. The area you see in front of you was planted in the Spring of 2016 by community volunteers. Volunteers continue to help restore the western slope of Mauna Kea today, where the last of the Palila population lives. The Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project regularly hosts volunteer events that support reforestation efforts. From seed collection and processing to outplanting māmane and koa, you can be directly involved in conservation efforts on Mauna Kea.
