Bat Week!
October 24, 2029 - October 31, 2029

Bat Week is an annual international celebration held from October 24 to 31, dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of bats and the need to protect them. In Hawaiʻi, our only native land mammal is the ʻōpeʻapeʻa, the Hawaiian hoary bat. This adorable bat is our official state land mammal and is an important part of our native forest ecosystems. Learn more on our ʻŌpeʻapeʻa profile page, where you can download headband craft activity, see photos and videos of ʻōpeʻapeʻa, and learn how to help conservationists monitor bat populations by recording your observations on iNaturalist.
