Your search found 288 hits- 12/28/21-FOREWARNING – CHRISTMAS TREE BONFIRES AT AHU O LAKA ARE ILLEGAL (HONOLULU) – The DLNR is taking a pro-active approach toward the illegal burning of Christmas trees at Ahu O Laka (Kāne’ohe Bay sandbar). This activity is a violation of State Administrative Rules (HAR). In recent years, photographs on social media sites have shown large numbers of people congregating as tree-fueled fires burn in the background. These tree-burnings are also destructive to both ocean and terrestrial natural resources.

- 10/18/22 – KAUA‘I SCHOOL CHILDREN HELP RELEASE RESCUED ENDANGERED SHEARWATERS(LIHU'E) – ‘A‘o (Newell’s Shearwater) are the beneficiaries of a tradition on Kaua‘i. On Monday, students from Island School released two fledgling ‘A‘o, during the annual Ho‘opomaika‘i ‘ia na Manu ‘A‘o , meaning a cultural release of the native Newell’s Shearwater, at Lydgate Park. The annual affair is organized by the Kaua‘i Endangered Seabird Recovery Project (KESRP) and the Save Our Shearwaters (SOS) Program, both of which are supported by DLNR.
- 12/08/22 – THREE FOREIGN NATIONALS CITED AFTER ENTERING MAUNA LOA CLOSED AREA(HILO) – Three men from Kazakhstan were cited on Wednesday after being observed by three different law enforcement agencies, in the closed area of the Mauna Loa Forest Reserve on Hawai‘i Island. The area was closed shortly after the current eruption of Mauna Loa to protect people from risk of injury or worse.
- 12/27/22 – CHRISTMAS TREE BONFIRES AT AHU O LAKA ARE ILLEGAL AND DISRESPECTFUL(HONOLULU) – The pro-active education and outreach about the illegal burning of Christmas trees at Ahu O Laka (Kāne‘ohe Bay sandbar), last year was successful. The DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) received no reports of tree burnings in late 2021 or early 2022.
- 02/03/23 – NEW BIO-SECURITY EXHIBIT AT DANIEL K. INOUYE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT(HONOLULU) – A recent survey of Hawai‘i residents shows that the vast majority (93%) consider invasive species a serious issue. The State is half-way through the implementation of the 2017-2027 Hawai‘i Interagency Biosecurity Plan to fill the gaps in invasive species prevention and control, and with the aim to increase awareness in helping to protect Hawai‘i.
- 04/25/23 – DLNR CHAIR MEETS WITH HAWAI‘I ISLAND FERAL CAT ADVOCATES(WAIKOLOA, HAWAI‘I) – At the direction of Governor Josh Green M.D., DLNR Chair Dawn Chang met today with the principals of ABayKitties, the organization that has provided cat food at a trio of feeding stations at the Queens’ Marketplace shopping center.
- 05/31/23 – FIFTY TO SIXTY CORAL COLONIES DAMAGED BY CINDER BLOCK LANE MARKERS(KAILUA-KONA, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) – Sixty-pound cinder blocks placed in the ocean for a Hawai‘i Island canoe regatta last weekend caused a range of damage from minimal-to-significant to approximately 100 coral colonies in Kailua Bay.
