Operated and maintained by the Waimea Branch of The Outdoor Circle the park was a tangled mess of invasive trees with the ground covered in Christmas berry.
- 04/01/21-INPUT SOUGHT ON MANAGEMENT OF MAUI’S KAHIKINUI FOREST RESERVE(Kula) – On the southern slopes of Haleakalā, an area once used for livestock grazing has been gradually turning back into native forest. Though the boundaries of the Kahikinui Forest Reserve has changed considerably since its establishment in 1928, the overarching goal of forest restoration and management has endured. Now, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), is seeking input on a draft management plan for the Kahikinui State Forest Reserve that will guide management priorities for this area over the next decade.

- 01/30/23 – PORTIONS OF MĀKENA STATE PARK TO BE CLOSED INTERMITTENTLY FOR HAZARDOUS TREE WORK(WAILUKU) – Over the next two weeks, work is being done at Mākena State Park on Maui to remove large fallen trees and hazardous branches. Due to the large equipment that will be used for this project, the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) will be closing off sections of the park.

They are seeking to raise $50,000 to support field teams that monitor the birds, and seek out and eradicate local mosquito populations.
