- 07/13/23 – RECENT WILDFIRES FOLLOWING DROUGHT CONDITIONS ACROSS HAWAI‘I(HONOLULU) – Severe drought conditions are now impacting the southern and western coastal areas of Maui. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor weekly reporting, this is the first time the severe drought designation has been noted in Hawai‘i this summer.
- 06/22/23 – RARE HAWAIIAN LAND SNAILS REACH TOP SPEED OF 50 MILES PER HOUR(HONOLULU) – Granted, they had assistance from the drivers of 10 vehicles, who moved thousands of rare, threatened, and endangered Hawaiian snails from their home in Kailua to new digs in the Pearl City area, this morning. Their caretakers have dubbed the transfer, “The Great Snail Bail,” and believe it could well be a record for the number of protected species moved from one place to another at one time.
- 09/22/23-CAMPSITES AT PEACOCK FLATS AND KUAOKALĀ TRAIL TO BE CLOSED DURING MĀKAHA BRIDGE CLOSURE REPAIRS(HONOLULU) –The upcoming State of Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) repair work on the Mākaha Bridge will close part of Farrington Highway from Friday, September 29 through Sunday October 1. Farrington Highway will be fully closed between Kili Drive and Makau Street during the Phase 2 Closure. No through traffic will be allowed during these times. During this time vehicular access to the Kuaokalā Forest Reserve, Mokulē‘ia Forest Reserve and Kuaokalā Game Management Area, managed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), will be affected. The forest reserves, game management area and all trails will remain open and accessible from the Mokulēʻia side only, via foot and bike.
