- 04/01/21-INPUT SOUGHT ON MANAGEMENT OF MAUI’S KAHIKINUI FOREST RESERVE(Kula) – On the southern slopes of Haleakalā, an area once used for livestock grazing has been gradually turning back into native forest. Though the boundaries of the Kahikinui Forest Reserve has changed considerably since its establishment in 1928, the overarching goal of forest restoration and management has endured. Now, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), is seeking input on a draft management plan for the Kahikinui State Forest Reserve that will guide management priorities for this area over the next decade.

- 09/07/23-ONE MONTH AFTER OLINDA WILDFIRE IGNITED DAILY FIRE WATCH CONTINUES(WAIHOU SPRING FOREST RESERVE, MAUI) – Indicative of serious drought conditions, in upcountry Maui, is the need for daily attention along the fire lines of the 1,000-acre Olinda fire. It started the same day, August 8, as the devastating fire that leveled Lāhainā town and left hundreds dead or unaccounted for.

- 10/11/22 – INPUT SOUGHT FOR MANAGEMENT OF KAMEHAMENUI FOREST RESERVE ON MAUI(KAHULUI) – Adding a new parcel to public lands is a rare event and opportunity on an island. In September 2020, DLNR acquired 3,433 acres of land known as Kamehamenui on the northwestern slopes of Haleakalā in Kula on Maui. Upper portions of the parcel include native shrubland ecosystems and provides habitat for nesting endangered seabirds and other wildlife. The reserve will join other lands managed by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), which is mandated to protect, restore and monitor natural resources within forest reserves.
