Unsafe conditions, including washed out gulch crossings and downed trees, have disabled access on the single narrow road that serves the reserve.

- 02/13/23 – WATER RESTORATION AT HĀPUNA BEACH STATE RECREATION AREA(Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area, Hawai‘i Island) – Water service at this state recreation area has been off and on more than three-dozen times since 2018, due to repeated breaks in its underground lines. The DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) decided, after spending a lot of time and money trying to remedy chronic leaks, it needed to look at a more long-term fix rather than the band-aid fixes employed over the past five years.”
- 11/01/22 – SIXTH ANNUAL ʻŌHIʻA LOVE FESTIVAL RETURNS TO IN-PERSON FORMAT(HONOLULU) – After two “virtual” years of celebation, ʻŌhiʻa Love Fest returns with numerous in-person events across Hawaiʻi. The theme of this year's festivities is Mōhala, or the unfurling of the lehua. It is a life stage of the blossoming lehua, but it also represents how we are emerging out of COVID with a new celebration.

- 02/27/23 – SECOND ATTEMPT TO FREE GROUNDED SUPER YACHT SET FOR TODAY(HONOLUA BAY, MAUI) – The salvage ship, Kahi, operated by Visionary Marine LLC of Honolulu, was successful in moving the 120-ton luxury yacht Nakoa, 10 to 20 feet further from shore late Sunday night. It ran fast aground on the rocky shoreline one week ago, just beyond the boundary of the Honolua-Mokulē'ia Marine Life Conservation District.

The meeting will feature presentations from DAR staff, researchers from University of Hawaii, and Hui Makaainana O Makana.
- 10/23/23-KAHALUʻU BAY OCEAN WATERS COMMERCIAL USE PERMIT LOTTERY(Kailua-Kona) – A lottery next month will be conducted to determine four applicants eligible to receive a Kahalu‘u Bay ocean waters commercial use permit for surf school operations. After the maximum number of permits is reached, the lottery will continue and remaining participants will be placed on a waitlist in the order of lottery selection, in case another applicant drops out. The four permitted commercial operators in Zone A of the bay can have no more than four students in the water, regardless of the number of instructors in the ocean. Zone A is the only part of Kahalu‘u Bay where commercial surf instruction is allowed.
