- 12/23/20-PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULED FOR INPUT ON THE UPDATE TO THE STATE WATER PROJECTS PLAN(Honolulu) -- The Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM) will hold public hearings online for an update to the State Water Projects Plan (SWPP) in January 2021. The SWPP is one of five component plans that together constitute the Hawai‘i Water Plan. The major objective of the SWPP is to provide a framework for planning and implementation of water development programs to meet projected water demands for State projects, such as schools, harbors, parks, agricultural parks, and office buildings.

- 03/07/23 – MAUNA LOA FOREST RESERVE REOPENS FOLLOWING NOVEMBER ERUPTION(HILO) – The Mauna Loa Forest Reserve will reopen effective immediately, months following the eruption of Mauna Loa. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is also announcing the immediate reopening of Unit A of the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve and Game Management Area South of Daniel K. Inouye Highway across from the Gil Kahele Recreation Area, also known as the “slice.”
- 12/21/21-STATE AND FEDERAL AUTHORITIES SEEK INFORMATION ON MONK SEAL SHOT AND KILLED ON MOLOKA‘I(HONOLULU) – A monk seal, known as L11, died of an intentional gunshot wound to the head on Moloka‘i on Sept. 19th. A postmortem analysis determined that the young female suffered severe, lethal trauma from a bullet fragment. Further testing by NOAA to determine whether the seal had any diseases is underway but is not expected to change the conclusion of the postmortem examination.
- 07/30/19-STATE CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION COMMISSION ADOPTS RECOMMENDATION FOR IMPROVING DISASTER RECOVERY PREPAREDNESS(Honolulu) – During its July meeting the Hawai’i Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (Climate Commission) and in advance of several tropical storms headed toward the state, the following new strategy was added to its five-point statement on sea level rise adaptation. The Climate Commission recognizes that disasters threaten resiliency.

- 03/11/21-SELECT STATE PARKS ON KAUA‘I CLOSED DUE TO RAIN AND FLOODING(LĪHUʻE) – Polihale State Park, Hāʻena State Park, and the Nā Pali Coast State Wilderness Park are all closed due to the impacts of heavy rain fall, flash flooding, and landslides. The entrance road to Polihale, on Kaua‘i’s west side, is flooded with numerous ponds of water along the route. Canal irrigation ditches have overflowed and is causing new erosion hotspots. The road is currently a river of mud.
- 05/15/23 – ANONYMOUS TIP SHOWS COUPLE AND LOOSE DOG CLOSE TO RESTING MONK SEAL(HONOLULU) – Last Wednesday, an anonymous tip received on the DLNRTip app showed photographs of a couple posing for pictures with a Hawaiian monk seal on a beach within the Ka‘ena Point State Park.
