Your search found 1637 hits- 02/03/23 – KAMANANUI VALLEY TO INTERMITTENTLY CLOSE FOR MONTH-LONG MAINTENANCE PROJECT(HONOLULU) – Starting Monday, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will conduct maintenance work in the Kamananui Valley, commonly referred to as Moanalua Valley, on Oʻahu. The Kamananui Valley Road Trail and the Kulana‘ahane Trail will be intermittently closed for vegetation clearing and road improvements.

- 09/19/23-ON THE TRAIL OF THE ELUSIVE ‘AKĒ‘AKĒ(MAUNA LOA FOREST RESERVE, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) — For seven years, Alex Wang, Wildlife Biologist with the DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), has searched for signs of the band-rumped storm-petrel, or ‘akē‘akē, nesting on Hawai‘i Island. After a long process of night surveys requiring patience, method refinement, and a generous dose of resolve, that day finally arrived in July.

- 01/28/22-MAKAPU’U LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL AND PARKING AREAS TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE NEXT WEEK(Honolulu) – Beginning Tuesday February 1st for three consecutive days from 7:00am to 11:00am the entire Makapu’u Lighthouse trail and parking areas at the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline will be closed for maintenance. Barricades and temporary signs will be placed at the park entrance alerting park users not to enter.
- 11/12/21-FIVE ‘AKIKIKI TO GAIN ADDITIONAL PROTECTION AS NUMBERS DECLINE(LĪHUʻE) – A shocking drop in numbers of ‘akikiki, an endangered forest bird, was recorded this year at Halehaha, a field site in the central mountains of Kaua’i. Biologists monitoring the area found that the population of more than 70 birds recorded in 2015 had declined to just five in 2021.
