As invasive species, they provide examples of some of the worst offenders among the many plants and animals that pose what the state legislature has declared as “the single greatest threat to Hawaii’s economy, natural environment and to the health and lifestyle of Hawaii’s people.” Hawaii’s isolation has made our island state home to more invasive species than anywhere else in the U.S.

- 04/20/22-GREAT KANAIO CAR CLEAN-UP UNDERWAY IN UPCOUNTRY MAUI(Kanaio, Maui) – Over the next three weeks, an estimated 175 abandoned derelict cars and trucks are being removed from unencumbered State land in a remote area of Maui. This morning, two flatbed tow trucks hauled seven vehicles down the long and winding road, after they’d been towed to the paved highway several miles beyond Ulupalakua Ranch. It’s the same trip the tow operators will make dozens of times until all of the vehicles are removed and transported to a salvage yard.

- 10/29/19-2019-2020 GAME BIRD HUNTING SEASON OPENS THROUGH JANUARY 2020(Honolulu)-The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces the opening of the 2019-2020 Game Bird Hunting Season on Saturday, November 2, 2019. The fall game bird hunting season will run through Sunday, January 25, 2020. A valid hunting license and a game bird stamp are required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands.
- 06/23/23 – SAFETY CONCERNS PROMPT DISMANTLING OF DIAMOND HEAD BREAKWATER(HONOLULU) – The state Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) today voted to approve the dismantling of the Diamond Head Breakwater in front of Shangri La to address and deter unsafe behavior. Boulders from the breakwater will be relocated to create a natural rocky shoreline fronting the Shangri La estate seawall.
