People of all ages, in a half-mile long line, each placing rock after rock on an ancient wall that protects the Alakoko fishpond, just outside Līhu‘e. Organized by the non-profit Mālama Hulē'ia as the organizations five-year anniversary workday, it appears the ambitious goal to have 2,000 volunteers helping today was realized.

- 03/16/23 – STATE PARKS TAKES MEASURED APPROACH FOR SUSTAINED WATER SOLUTION AT HĀPUNA BEACH(Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area, Hawai‘i Island) – Careful progress is being made toward restoration of water service at Hāpuna Beach, to address residents’ concerns. The DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) is taking a multi-pronged approach consisting of three simultaneous and separate projects now in process to address temporary, short-term fixes as well as a permanent, long-term solution.

As invasive species, they provide examples of some of the worst offenders among the many plants and animals that pose what the state legislature has declared as “the single greatest threat to Hawaii’s economy, natural environment and to the health and lifestyle of Hawaii’s people.” Hawaii’s isolation has made our island state home to more invasive species than anywhere else in the U.S.
