- 02/2/24 – KEALAKEKUA COMMUNITY-LED CORAL RESTORATION PROJECT AIMS TO ACCELERATE REEF GROWTH AND RECOVERY(KEALAKEKUA BAY, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) - The Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) took part in a second collaborative coral restoration project today with Hawaiian cultural practices and protocols in the waters of Kealakekua Bay, on the Kona side of Hawai‘i Island. Kanu Ko‘a is the name of a community-led project integrating Hawaiian culture, the local community, and the science of coral restoration, and the ceremony emphasized ‘ohana (family) and relationships with ko‘a (corals).
- 04/12/23 – CORAL DAMAGE AT HANAUMA BAY BEING REPAIRED BY NURSERY-GROWN COLONIES(HONOLULU) – Six, pyramid-shaped coral colonies are now growing on the rock a few feet below the surface at Hanauma Bay. The corals were grown at the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources’ (DAR) Coral Restoration Nursery on Sand Island for the very purpose of restoring colonies damaged by natural or human caused events.
- 01/25/23 – LEHUA ISLAND RESTORATION CONTINUES WITH SEABIRD SOCIAL ATTRACTION PROJECTS(Lehua Islet) - After being declared rat-free in 2021, restoration and monitoring efforts continue on Lehua Islet (Lehua), a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Kauaʻi. Monitoring of native seabird species breeding on the islet by the Kauaʻi Endangered Seabird Recovery Project (KESRP) and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) indicates a success story, based on increased reproductive success following eradication of the rat population. Work on Lehua is now in the restoration phase. Lehua is a State Seabird Sanctuary managed by DOFAW.

- 3/4/24 – BLESSING FOR THE START OF FOREST BIRD FIELD SEASON ON KAUA(KŌKE‘E STATE PARK, KAUA‘I) –A muddy and weary team from the Kaua‘i Forest Bird Recovery Project (KFBRP), arrived here in time for the annual blessing of the field season for conservationists working against the clock to save numerous species of Hawaiian Honeycreepers from extinction.

- 08/30/23-OCEAN WATERS OFF LĀHAINĀ NORMAL (LĀHAINĀ, HAWAI‘I) – Preliminary water testing in the nearshore waters off Lāhainā are showing that physical parameters, like temperature, PH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen, are currently in normal ranges.
- 03/25/21-LAKE WILSON CLEAN UP(Honolulu) – Recent heavy rain events have caused major flooding to many parts of the state and with that, debris is churned up and scattered. Staff from the DLNR Division of Aquatics Resources (DAR) are currently cleaning up Lake Wilson which has had tons of rubbish in its waters due to these rain events. If Lake Wilson is not cleaned up, it could impact fishing opportunities in the Lake, and the rubbish could end up in Kaiaka Bay and eventually the ocean.
